ABOUT BEIJING FOREIGN STUDIES UNIVERSITY
Beijing Foreign Studies University, or BFSU, is a prestigious university in China under the direct leadership of the Chinese Ministry of Education. It is one of China’s top universities listed under the Project 985 and Project 211, both comprising top universities in China. At present, BFSU is one of China’s oldest language universities,teaching the biggest number of languages and offering education at different levels. Located in the Haidian District of Beijing,BFSU is divided into two campuses – the West Campus and the East Campus.
In 1941, BFSU started as the Russian Language Team in the Third Branch of Chinese People’s Anti-Japanese Military and Political College. It was later renamed as Yan’an Foreign Languages School under the direct leadership of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the school was put under the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It was renamed as Beijing Foreign Languages Institute in 1954 and merged with Beijing Russian Institute in 1959. Since 1980, the Institute was put under the direct leadership of the Ministry of Education. In 1994, it took on its current name Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU). Today, BFSU teaches 67 foreign languages and offers education programs at different levels, including doctoral programs in foreign languages and literature, Chinese language and literature, journalism and communication, political science, law, management science and engineering, etc.
In the past 74 years, over 90,000 people have graduated from BFSU. BFSU now serves as an important education base for qualified professionals with language competence who, after graduation, work as diplomats, translators/interpreters, businessmen, journalists, lawyers, bankers, etc. For example, among BFSU alumni who work or have worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we have over 400 ambassadors and over 1000 counselors. BFSU is thus known as the “Cradle of Diplomats”.

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS SCHOOL, BEIJING FOREIGN STUDIES UNIVERSITY
Established in 2001, International Business School (IBS) is one of the largest in Beijing Foreign Studies University. The full-time students enrolled have amounted to over 2,000 currently, with nearly 400 overseas students.

ADMISSION
ACADEMIC TIMETABLE
The academic year at BFSU begins in early September and finishes in mid-January of the next year, and is divided into two semesters – the spring semester and the fall semester. Each year students have two vacations – the summer vacation (July and August)and the winter vacation (4 weeks around the Chinese Spring Festival).Short-term Chinese language courses are offered during the summer and winter vacations.
INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION PROGRAM
It is for students who may not have the appropriate qualifications for direct entry to an undergraduate degree program in International Business School, Beijing Foreign Studies University.
During Foundation semester, you will study a combination of core modules, including English Language, Business English, Chinese Language, Business Mathematics, Business Studies and several electives, which prepares you for the undergraduate study.
5 credits can be transferred to the bachelor program and the tuition fee will be exempted accordingly if certain courses are completed successfully.
Why apply for the International Foundation Program?
DEGREE PROGRAMS
1. Undergraduate students study for 4 years. To get your BA degree, you must complete all required courses, write a graduation thesis and pass the oral defence for your thesis.
2.Master’s candidates' study for 2-3 years depending on different programs. International students will sit with their Chinese peers in all courses. To get your graduation certificate and master’s degree, you must complete all required courses, write a graduation thesis and pass the oral defence.
3.Doctoral candidates study for 3 years. To get your graduation certificate and doctoral degree, you must complete all required courses, make academic achievements, write a doctoral dissertation and pass the oral defence.
NON-DEGREE PROGRAMS
1.Regular courses: 1/2 to 1 year, extendable if necessary. A certificate will be issued when you complete the required Chinese language courses or other courses and pass the exams.
2.Short-term courses: presently, we only offer Chinese language short-term courses for learners who wish to have a short-term learning experience in Chinese language and culture. During the summer vacation, 8-, 4- and 3-week courses are offered; during the winter vacation, 4-week courses are offered, depending on applications we receive. Classes take place from Monday to Friday with morning classes devoted to Chinese language and afternoon classes to Chinese culture. Each week a Beijing city tour will be arranged. Students will get a BFSU International Student ID Card and a certificate of completion of the courses.
APPLICATION AND ADMISSION PROCEDURES
1.Application:Applicants shall submit your application and necessary documents to info@studyinchina.com.my. You should submit your application from mid-April to early June for enrollment for the fall semester, and from mid-October to early January the next year for enrollment for the spring semester. We will examine your documents and ask for additional ones if necessary. Progress can be tracked online.
2.Admission:Once you are admitted, a notice will be sent to you as soon as possible, together with other documents such as a visa application form (JW202) and a welcome letter to new students. It takes at least 4 to 5 weeks for these documents to be sent.
ACCOMMODATION
BFSU offers dormitory rooms of different choices to its international students.
If you choose not to live on campus, you should find your own accommodation, and upon arrival, report to the local police station. The police will issue you an accommodation certificate, which will be used when you register at BFWU and complete all necessary formalities upon arrival.
