On February 26th, Professor Zheng Ming-Hao, Director of Centre for Orthopedic Research at University of Western Australia (UWA), paid a visit to SCUT.
Received by SCUT President Wang Yingjun and Vice President Zhu Min at Shaw Building of Humanities, Professor Zheng had a meeting with his counterparts in Guangzhou, including representatives from Guangdong General Hospital (GGH), SCUT International Office and SCUT School of Medicine.
During the meeting, SCUT and UWA reached agreements in principle on establishing a joint graduate program in clinical medicine, as well as a research center for regenerative medicine.
President Wang praised that the two universities share a long history in cooperation. The visit of Professor Zheng, on the occasion that SCUT School of Medicine was newly founded, provides a fresh opportunity to extend the relationship.
While his stay at Guangzhou, Professor Zheng learned more about SCUT and School of Medicine, which was co-established by SCUT and GGH in 2014. He proposed further cooperation between UWA School of the Surgery and SCUT School of Medicine, especially in scientific research, teaching and talent cultivation.
Except for visiting the SCUT First Clinical College at GGH, he also presented an academic lecture entitled “Translating research findings into action: Science of tendon and cartilage repair” for faculty members and students.
As a member of the Group of Eight in Australia, UWA is a research-intensive university established in 1911. It is the oldest university in the state of Western Australia, and it has produced 100 Rhodes Scholars, one Nobel Prize laureate and one Australian Prime Minister.
