On October 6th, the 2016 Best Global Universities Rankings were released by U.S. News & World Report.
The Overall Ranking includes the best 750 universities around the world. The subject rankings also present the world’s top institutions in 22 academic fields.
Since launched last year, this is the second year for U.S. News and World Report to produce the rankings.
On the Overall Ranking, South China University (SCUT) ranks No. 395, leaping by notable 53 places compared with last year. Among the 65 universities from mainland China ranked on the list, SCUT is the 22nd, moving up by three places.
After ranked in the section of No. 301-400 on the 2015 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) in August, SCUT enters the world’s top 400 universities again.
On the subject rankings, three academic fields of SCUT enter the world’s top 100, including Agricultural Science (No. 29), Engineering (No.41), and Chemistry (No. 69), while Materials Science is ranked as No. 143, breaking into the world’s top 200 for the first time.
This year, Institutions from the U.S and nearly 60 other countries are ranked in the U.S. News Best Global Universities Rankings. The methodology is based on 12 indicators that measure these universities’ academic research performance and their global and regional reputations. One of the purposes of these rankings is for students to use them to explore the higher education options that exist beyond their own countries' borders and to compare key aspects of schools' research missions.
