The Economics and Management School of Wuhan University becomes a new member of EQUIS Accredited Schools, making WHU the first one in Central China to achieve EQUIS accreditation.

From November 1st to 5th, 2015, the school had accepted on-site certification review by the EQUIS peer review team. During three days of on-site authentication, the peer review team made an all-around survey on the management and development strategy of school, as well as its teaching program, faculty and students, scientific researches, resources, internationalization, enterprise contacts and social responsibility, etc.

The Dean of the School, Professor Danyang Xie said that the EQUIS accreditation is a significant achievement."The Economics and Management School of Wuhan University is proud to be the first EQUIS-accredited business school in Central China, a dynamic area with a population of 300 million. This is a critical step for our School to become a leading business school in China with world-class standing. Our School, in further collaboration with international partners, will contribute to business knowledge creation and human capital development for China, as well as for the World."

As one of the world's three most authoritative international certification Systems, EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System) is set up by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), which is famous for its comprehensive and rigorous review. Less than 3% of business schools in the world have received the EQUIS accreditation. (Edited by Sijia Hu, Source - Wuhan University)

What is EQUIS?

equisEQUIS (the European Quality Improvement System) is the accrediting body of the European Federation for Management Development (EFMD) and the leading international system of quality assessment, improvement, and accreditation of higher education institutions in management and business administration.

The EFMD Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) is a school accreditation system. It specializes in higher education institutions of management and business administration, run by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD). Link - List of Accredited Schools.

EFMD is an international not-for-profit membership organisation, based in Brussels, Belgium. There are over 800 member organizations from academia, business, public service and consultancy in 81 countries. It is a unique forum for information, research, networking and debate on innovation and best practice in management development.

Recognized globally as an accreditation body of quality in management education with established accreditation services for business schools and business school programmes, corporate universities and technology-enhanced learning programmes.

The fundamental objective of EQUIS, linked to the mission of EFMD, is to raise the standard of management education worldwide.

  • EQUIS assesses institutions as a whole. It assesses not just degree programmes but all the activities and sub-units of the institution, including research, e-learning units, executive education provision and community outreach. Institutions must be primarily devoted to management education.
  • EQUIS is not primarily focused on the MBA or any other specific programme. Its scope covers all programmes offered by an institution from the first degree up to the Ph.D.
  • EQUIS looks for a balance between high academic quality and the professional relevance provided by close interaction with the corporate world. A strong interface with the world of business is, therefore, as much a requirement as a strong research potential. EQUIS attaches particular importance to the creation of an effective learning environment that favours the development of students’ managerial and entrepreneurial skills, and fosters their sense of global responsibility. It also looks for innovation in all respects, including programme design and pedagogy.
  • Institutions that are accredited by EQUIS must demonstrate not only high general quality in all dimensions of their activities, but also a high degree of internationalisation. With companies recruiting worldwide, with students choosing to get their education outside their home countries, and with schools building alliances across borders and continents, there is a rapidly growing need for them to be able to identify those institutions in other countries that deliver high quality education in international management.
