Manchester-based Intern China has opened its fourth office in the Chinese city of Dalian.

The move means UK undergraduates will be able to gain a range of work placements in one of China’s financial hubs, which has been nicknamed ‘the Hong Kong of Northern China’.

Jamie Bettles, managing director of the internship firm hopes the new office in the modern port city will lead to a long term strategic partnership with the China branch of UK higher education organisation INTO University Partnerships.

He said: “Dalian fits perfectly with our core values of offering students a destination where they can immerse themselves in Chinese language and culture.

“Working more closely with INTO has been a long-term ambition. I know we will add an extra dimension to their China study programmes and hope that an ongoing partnership will help us to achieve even more significant growth in years to come.”

Intern China places more than 300 students in quality internships in China annually, as well as setting them up with an accommodation and support network.

Working with the British Council China, they currently operate in three off-the-beaten-track Chinese cities with Dalian, in the south of China’s Liaoning Province, now added to the portfolio thanks to a partnership with INTO.

Jeremy Histon, director of INTO China and global business development, said: “INTO and our partner – Dongbei University of Finance and Economics always attach great importance on enhancing the employability of our students on English medium degree programmes.

“We look forward to working with Intern China to provide quality internship opportunities to our students and help them develop skills and attributes that are attractive to potential employers.”

Intern China was founded in 2007 and since then has worked with 1,500 students and recent graduates from countries all over the world to experience the ‘real China’.

The firm also has offices in Qingdao, Chengdu and Zhuhai. - Manchester Evening News
